Dr. Hurly received his medical diploma from the University of North Dakota in 1990. He completed a four year combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Oregon with clinical rotations at Oregon Health Sciences University. He also served as Chief Resident in Pathology in 1993. The residency program at St. Vincent was directed by R. Mark Owings, a former gastrointestinal pathology fellow under Roger Haggitt in Nasheville, TN. The program was focused on high volume surgical pathology with emphasis on gastrointestinal pathology. From 1994-1995, Dr. Hurly completed a one year fellowship in combined Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology at the University of Missouri where his responsibilities included performance of fine needle aspirations in the ENT clinic. In 1995 he moved to Amarillo, TX where he has been practicing ever since. His greatest interest lies in the field of gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology.
Dr. Hurly has been a member of the Potter Randall Medical Society Board of Directors, and has also served in the Texas Medical Association as member of the House of Delegates and the Council on Health Service Organizations. He is a member of the College of American Pathologists, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the U.S. and Canadian Academy of Pathology. He has been married to his wife Breeze since 1998, and together they have four children. He and Breeze attend Trinity Fellowship Christian Church in Amarillo, and are active supporters of the local Bethesda Outreach Ministry and Care Net Crisis Pregnancy Centers of Amarillo. They are also involved with Marriage Today, a worldwide marriage ministry headed by Jimmy and Karen Evans, and the Oasis de Esperanza mission which educates and feeds children in Nicaragua.
